Posted: 17 Jun 2016 02:01 PM PDT Four child traffickers, including an evangelist were arrested and paraded on Wednesday, June 15, by the police for allegedly kidnapping a four year old child from her school, St Joseph Primary School in Umuhu-Okabia in Orsu local government area of the state. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Andrew Enwerem who paraded the suspects said that the little girl Chinasa Okeke was abducted by Chibueze Okorie,20, in connection with Chinonso Ogbedi, Ijeoma Ogbuehi, an acclaimed Evangelist and Joy Nwosu all of Orsu local government whose plan was to sell the child. According police Mr Enwerem, the child was rescued following information from the members of the public on the whereabouts of the suspected human traffickers. "On Friday, we received distress calls that one Chinasa Okeke was stolen from her school, we swung into ation immediately where we rescued the child unhurt and arrested these four miscreants in the process who have all confessed to the crime". the PPRO disclosedConfirming the incident, the prime suspect, Okorie said that Miss Ogbuehi asked him to abduct the little child, promising to reward him with two hundred thousand Naira (N200,000) when she gets a buyer but unfortunately for him, she never got to pay him as at the time of their arrest. Ogbedi, Nwosu's boyfriend, said the child was sold in Ihiala, Anambra State for an unspecified amount Ogbuehi, a graduate of Trinity College of Ministerial Acts, Aba in Abia state denied promising to give Okorie N200,000 as he alleged, claiming to be legally qualified to adopt less privileged children, even as she failed to show any certificate to back her claim. The rescued girl has since been reunited with her parents as her father, Mr Matthew Okeke, who expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Police Force for saving his daughter's life. The suspects would soon be charged to court for child stealing and trafficking, Mr Enwerem said. Source: Chidiebube Okeoma |
Photos: Man sentenced to 18 years in prison after he shot his Nigerian friend dead in London Posted: 17 Jun 2016 01:09 PM PDT 27-year-old Christopher Erunse who tried to flee to Amsterdam after shooting dead a childhood friend in broad-daylight has been jailed for 18 years on Wednesday, June 15. Christopher Erunse, 28, was last year October charged with the murder of Moses Fadairo. See previous post here Moses Fadairo, 25, had become a father to twin sons three months before he was was gunned down by Christopher Erunse on a busy market street in Clapton in suspected gangland execution in Hackney, east Londonon Saturday, September 26, 2015. Customers at restaurants and cafes nearby ran for cover when Moses chased after and stabbed Erunse in the leg, and he retaliated by opening fire. The Old Bailey heard Moses and his older brother Emmanuel had been hunting down Erunse in a taxi on September 26 last year over a drug dispute, leaping out to confront him in Chatsworth Road just after 1pm. Emmanuel dodged the bullets as he hid in the Mighty Meat butcher's shop, but Moses, was struck once in the chest and died at the scene. Erunse, of Chalcombe Road, Greenwich, was cleared of murder and attempted murder by a jury but found guilty of manslaughter and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. His accomplice, Bradley Wynter, 28, admitted carrying the gun away from the scene of the shooting, and is due to be sentenced later. He had been in Percy Ingle's bakery at the time of the shooting, but had been caught on CCTV dropping the weapon while carrying it away wrapped in his jacket. Judge Wendy Joseph QC said the shooting was part of a spiral of "tit for tat revenge". "The effect of it has rolled on and will roll on perhaps forever - the impact is huge and the damage irreparable", she said. A young man of 24 has lost his life and his children left fatherless. His mother has been left inconsolable and unable to come to terms with what's happened, and his siblings are bereft."She said Erunse had chosen to live in "a world of violence and drugs", and chose to carry a loaded gun rather than go to the police for help when he got into the dispute with the Fadairo brothers. "You armed yourself with a loaded weapon and went on to the high street at the busiest time of day on the busiest day of the week", she said. Frankly it's a miracle no innocent passerby was shot and badly injured in the scenes that unfolded."Erunse was arrested three days after the shooting as he sat on a plane that was about to take off from Birmingham Airport. As he was being led away by officers, he said into a mobile phone: "I've been nabbed." The Fadairo family told Evening Standard how his death has torn them apart. Elizabeth Fadairo, 22, his sister, today Friday, June 17, accepted that Moses had "made mistakes" in his life but that his death had "ripped her family apart" "This violence has to stop. Think of the families it tears apart. There is so much we have lost. Think of his sons who will grow up without a father. These feuds are madness. The man who killed my brother was once his friend.Prosecutor Crispin Aylett QC said Erunse had grown up with the Fadairo brothers in Hackney as friends, but their relationship soured over some missing drugs. "The fatal incident took place at around lunchtime on that same Saturday in Chatsworth Road, a busy road in Hackney", he said. "It was a sunny day. People were eating outside at cafes and restaurants, parents were out shopping with their children. What followed was, on any view, quite outrageous."Wynter, who has spent most of his adult life in prison, claims he threw the gun into the Thames after the shooting Source: Evening Standard |

Governor Rochas Okorocha reacts to the protest by pensioners Posted: 17 Jun 2016 12:13 PM PDT Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has reacted to the recent protest by pensioners in the state. The elderly pensioners on Wednesday, June 15, took to the streets of the state capital to demonstrate over non payment of their entitlements by the government. Below is the statement issued by Sam Onwuemeodo, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor: "The State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has sincerely commended the pensioners in the state for the peaceful manner with which they had conducted their protest on Thursday, June 16, 2016 over the non-payment of their pensions for certain months. The governor contends that the Pensioners were right to have gone on protest over their pensions, and had only exercised their guaranteed right of protest over an issue affecting them. It was as a result of the appreciation of the reason for the protest that made the governor to direct the security agencies in the state and all the government officials to be on their toes for the period the protest had lasted to ensure that no pensioner involved in the exercise was insulted or touched. And the pensioners had had undisrupted outing, and even chased away the Commissioner for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) who was sent to talk with them on what could be made available for them as entertainment, while discussion with their leaders would follow. However, the only area the governor felt and still feel worried with the pensioners was their failure or inability to find out the reason for the delay in the payment of their pensions since such situation had not arisen before now. The pensioners in the state do not need to be told that the governor loves them greatly and would have also loved to pay them all the arrears outrightly given the option since he had paid them religiously since 2011, until now. And the governor had expected the pensioners to ask question and find out the reason for the delay this time. Since 2011, and before the current economic challenges across the nation, the government had paid the pensioners in the state without taking cognizance of certain lapses in the administration of the pension payments and the number of genuine pensioners in the state. But the economic situation in the country at the moment occasioned by the mismanagement of the country's resources over the years, which has also affected negatively the financies of the states has called for stringent measures in the payment of salaries and pensions. It was this development that had compelled the government to find out why between 2011 and now, the number of pensioners in the state has snowballed by 500 percent, and the amount involved gone from hundreds of millions of naira to billions of naira. That was one of the reasons the government embarked on verification. And preliminary findings have shown that a cartel had used the opportunity offered to them by the change of government in 2011 to inflate unpatriotically the number of pensioners in the state to a level that is unbelievable. And that is what the government has been assiduously working to rectify. And the truth remains that once the government succeeds in separating the fake pensioners from the genuine ones, the genuine ones would be paid their pensions. And this action will be taken in a matter of weeks. The governor therefore regrets the delay and at the same time appeals to the pensioners in the state for their understanding, bearing in mind that he meant well for them since 2011 when he became governor. It is equally important to let the pensioners know that those urging them to take one action or the other do not love them more than governor Okorocha. For instance, the owner of the particular Radio station in the state that had tried to make out something sinister from the pensioners' protest was reported to have got more than N750 million from the 4 billion dollars' arms purchase scandal, and the pensioners should ask those in the radio station why they didn't bring up the N750 million issue for discussion. Once more, the governor appeals to the pensioners in the state for understanding. |

Posted: 17 Jun 2016 11:49 AM PDT The Autopsy report of the two-year-old boy who was dragged into a Lagoon by an alligator near a Disney resort in Orlando on Tuesday night has been released. Lane Graves, the son of Matthew and Melissa Graves, was on vacation with his parents in Orlando before the sad incident occurred. Lane had been playing in the man made lagoon which wasn't very deep around 9:20pm when the alligator attacked and dragged him underwater. His father tried frantically and wrestled with the alligator to save him, but could not pry the toddler from the alligator's jaw. During the search for his body, wildlife officials caught six alligators in the lake and killed them all. 16 hours later, the boy's body was found intact in the lake. His Autopsy report revealed that he died from "drowning and traumatic injuries." His parents have now issued a statement, saying, "Words cannot describe the shock and grief our family is experiencing over the loss of our son. We are devastated and ask for privacy during this extremely difficult time. To all of the local authorities and staff who worked tirelessly these past 24 hours, we express our deepest gratitude." |

'The NBA is absolutely rigged for money' Steph Curry's wife Ayesha rips into NBA, later apologizes Posted: 17 Jun 2016 11:02 AM PDT Golden State Warriors fans are disappointed with the NBA team's loss Thursday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which will cause the two teams to take the finals all the way to Game 7, and some are speculating that the defeat was due to Stephen Curry getting fouled out of the game. Stephen Curry's wife, Ayesha took to Twitter to vent about the 115-101 defeat and voiced her suspicions on the authenticity of the game. "I've lost all respect sorry this is absolutely rigged for money... Or ratings in not sure which. I won't be silent . Just saw it live sry," she wrote. After receiving blasts from fans, with some even saying a christian like her and her husband shouldn't crack under pressure, she apologized, blaming her outburst on a previous occurrence of her dad being held down by police. |

Dino Melaye calls for the scrapping of "State of Origin" as a political requirement Posted: 17 Jun 2016 09:22 AM PDT Senator Dino Melaye has called for the scrapping of the "State of Origin" requirement for political offices contestants in Nigeria. Speaking at a ceremony to unveil the logo/medal of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), in commemoration of its 18th anniversary, Melaye said state of residence of prospective political aspirants should be focused on. According to him, this would promote peace and coexistence in Nigeria as anyone who has stayed in a place for more than a particular number of years can vie for any political office. "Ethnic bigotry should be shunned. There should be a replacement of the state-of-origin to unite the country. Any responsible person that has lived in a particular place for a certain number of years can aspire to any political position, including that state's governor seat. There is also the need for the review of the educational system so as to teach more morals, values and culture with a view to building falling walls." Recall that the immediate past senate president, David Mark, while in office, canvassed for the scrapping of the state of origin requirement. According to David Mark, anyone who had stayed in a place for as long as 20 years should be able to contest election without any resistance as he has over the years contributed his quota to the development of his state of residence. |

Blessing Egbe Releases “One Room” On Streaming Site, www.bconceptnetwork.tv today Posted: 17 Jun 2016 09:21 AM PDT After so much anticipation, Blessing Egbe has finally released her movie, One Room, on a movie streaming site, www.bconceptnetwork.tv today. Written, produced and directed by one of Nollywood's finest female directors, Blessing Egbe, "One Room" is a drama plotted around a couple that have been married for 5 years. When Ada played by Rita Dominic realizes that her yearning for her husband is fruitless, she takes a step to change things. Little did she know what was in store for them from that singular act of hers. Blessing Egbe's "One Room" captures what plays out in an average family in the society that seems to be lost on the public. The cast, who interpreted their roles without any amiss, coupled with Blessing Egbe's ingenious directorial skills, recaptures this familial situation in ways that would get you glued to you seats. Reacting to why she decided to premier her movie online through a streaming platform, the director of "Lekki Wives", said "The first is the need to bridge the gap and go straight to the fans who always long to be carried along…Second is the need to gain back the freedom of expression. Without knowing it, film makers have gradually relegated their expressive powers to the distributors and broadcasters who now, to an extent, control the output of work being produced and released…Lastly, producers want to be empowered. We want to own our own market. Be in control of our work and how we create." Apart from "One Room", the director would also be launching the first series of another TV series, This Thing Called Marriage on the site. This Thing Called Marriage, according to Blessing Egbe, "will shadow the line of Lekki Wives and expose the behind-the-scenes of a supposed beautiful exterior; the things that go on in marriage…". "One Room" and and the first season of "This Thing Called Marriage" are now available on www.bconceptnetwork.tv for streaming. |
