The spokesperson of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, says the agency has the right to freeze the accounts of Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, even though he enjoys immunity under the constitution.

Speaking with Vanguard, Uwujaren said the immunity being enjoyed by any governor doesn't prevent the commission from investigating suspicious movements of money into his accounts.

"Immunity does not prevent EFCC from investigating suspicious accounts of those enjoying immunity and Fayose cannot be an exception, "he said Fayose's account with Zenith bank was frozen by EFCC today June 20th.

EFCC blocks Fayose's account...governor kicks

Posted: 20 Jun 2016 01:25 PM PDT

Read the statement below...
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has blocked the account of Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, he operates with Zenith Bank Plc. The governor, who spoke to reporters in Ado-Ekiti on Monday at the premises of the bank, said he had information that the accounts of some of his associates were also affected.
According to a press release by the Chief Preds Secretary to the Governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the governor accused some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a prominent lawyer from the state of being the brains behind the action.

While condemning the action, Fayose said under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, especially th‎e provisions contained in Section 308, he enjoys immunity and wondered why his personal properties should become the targets of Federal Government and it's agencies under the guise of fighting corruption.

"Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution gives me immunity just like the President. I wouldn't know why these people are intolerant of others and in a haste. Let them wait till 2018 when I will end my tenure for them to do their investigation.

The other time the EFCC accused me of embezzling N1.2 billion poultry project fund, I was the one who voluntarily reported myself to the EFCC.

"It was ‎when I got a hint of their move that I wrote a cheque to withdraw some money from the account and I came myself. I was denied access to the account as I was told the EFCC has placed restriction on it. That is executive rascality taken too far. Even when I had case with EFCC my properties were not affected.

"If they say they are investigating money spent on election, does it mean it is only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that spent money on election? A lot of people and groups supported my campaign then. Where did APC and their leaders get the money they spent on 2015 general elections from? Now it is only in PDP that they find thieves, to them there are no theieves in the APC.

"A lot of petitions were written against former Governor Kayode Fayemi and the EFCC has not asked him a question up till now. The diversion of N850 million fund meant for Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board is there and nobody is asking Fayemi questions.

"Even the President cannot claim to be an angel. The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal. When that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the President's wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialize the judgment for people to see and read. "We will not allow this and we will defend our rights within the law of the land. Those who th‎ink they can silence me are mistaken. I am a person who is not perturbed by things like this. Let them wait till 2018 when I will finish my term and I will be the one to go and meet them. I won't run away and let them investigate the whole world, I have nothing to hide or fear," he said.

Fayose said he would challenge the action appropriately.

Federal Ministry of Finance addresses the salary protest at its Abuja Secretariat

Posted: 20 Jun 2016 12:50 PM PDT

Workers at the Federal Ministry of Finance today called for the sack of Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun. They staged a protest and shut down the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, over the non payment of their allowances and entitlements. However, In a statement released by Director of Information, Salisu Na'inna Dambatta, he said the protest has been addressed & deemed unjustified. It reads,

A joint protest by some staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Budget Office of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, to back a demand for the payment of an unofficial allowance totaling N1.2 billion has been brought to the attention of the Management of the Federal Ministry of Finance.
The Management wishes to state as follows:
i. The payment of what the protesting staff called a Special Overtime (SOT), was stopped by the last administration in 2014 on the ground that it was not listed in any extant government Circular, Financial Regulations or the Public Service Rules;
ii. The sum of N1.2 billion computed by the staff union for payment could not have been budgeted for in 2016 in the first place, not only because of the paucity of funds, but also the fact that the SOT allowance was not part of the remuneration in the Federal Public Service; and
iii. The Federal Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Budget Office of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, do not individually or collectively, owe any of their personnel their salaries.
In view of the foregone, the Management of the Federal Ministry of Finance wishes to categorically state that the protests have no justifiable grounds.

Synagogue contractors released from Kirikiri Prisons after meeting bail conditions

Posted: 20 Jun 2016 12:47 PM PDT

Weeks after they were granted bail by the court, the contractors that handled the construction of the collapsed Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) building, Akinbola Fatiregun and Oladele Ogundeji, were today, Monday 20 June, 2016 released from the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons after meeting all their bail conditions.

The two engineers had been remanded in prison pending trial for alleged manslaughter and criminal negligence, charges levelled against them by the Lagos State Government. Following the ruling of the judge that they be remanded in prison custody, their bail application was filed and subsequently granted, although meeting its conditions took a while due to their stringent nature. Having been released, the engineers are expected to be in court on Tuesday 21 June, for the continuation of their trial.

Meanwhile, at the resumed trial today, counsel to defendants cross-examined the witness representing the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NIBRRI) and the Council Of Registered Engineers in Nigeria (COREN), Engineer Victor Oyenuga. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) pointed out to the witness the fact that there is no proof of any correspondence between NIBRRI and COREN regarding the report of the committee said to have been set up by COREN which suggested structural faults were responsible for the tragic incident.

The implication of the foregoing is that the report could have been the mischievous creation of some people with a sinister motive to rubbish the reputation of the engineers who constructed the building. Olalekan Ojo also made it clear to the court that the Nigerian Institute of Structural Engineers is not a creation of law and therefore is inconsequential in determining those qualified to practice Structural Engineering as a profession.

This was in response to Oyenuga's insistence that the two engineers that handled the construction of the guesthouse were not members of this organisation, attempting to lend credence to his assertion they were incompetent.

The witness agreed with the declaration of Mr Ojo but insisted that the Nigerian Institute of Structural Engineering remains an affiliate of COREN. Justice Lawal Akapo adjourned proceedings to Tuesday 21 June, 2016 for continuation of trial. Nosa Osazuwa, a writer from Lagos, was present during the court hearing

'I was not adopted o! Neither am I bleaching' - Freeze addresses people stunned at his father's dark complexion

Posted: 20 Jun 2016 09:05 AM PDT

When Freeze shared a photo of his dark skinned father in celebration of Father's Day, his fans began to drag him on Social Media, asking him if he had bleached his skin or was probably adopted. In a bid to clear up the confusion, Freeze shared a photo of his mum, who is Romanian and wrote,
"Response I got from my Father's Day post was overwhelming and absolutely hilarious. Some said because my dad is really dark and I am fair I must have been adopted, others claimed I was bleaching while some even went ahead to advice my dad to do a DNA test to make sure I was really his son.

Ok guys, just incase speculation were to evolve into fact, let me set the record straight! I was not adopted o! Neither am I bleaching! Here is a pic of my mum and she is white as in oyinbo pepe all the way from a small Eastern European country called Romania. I am from Transylvania, the birth place of the famous 'Dracula', who by the was was a distant relative. Anyway, here is a little family history. My dad was an academic genius who saw himself through school jumping from one scholarship to the other. He went to secondary school in Tema, Ghana and came back to Nigeria in the early 70s. According to the legend, a friend informed him that the Hungarian embassy was giving scholarships to gifted students. My dad told me that he was so broke, he had to walk all the way to the embassy and upon getting there he discovered that the last form was picked up a few minutes before he got to the embassy. My poor dad was devastated and downcast. One of the guards at the embassy now asked him to check the Romanian embassy. My dad went there, got the form, passed the exam in flying colors and got a scholarship to study Medicine in Romania. He met my mum who by 22, had already completed her masters. Fast forward to 2016, my dad runs a private practice in Ibadan while my mum is a deputy vice chancellor in a private university. I hope I answered all your questions.... Lol"
