Mother writes open letter to a hospital employee who told her 4yr old daughter that the boy who hit her 'likes her'

Posted: 11 Oct 2015 01:24 PM PDT

A Columbus, Ohio mother, Merritt Smith shared a photo of her 4yr old daughter accompanied with an open letter on her Facebook page on Oct. 6th to an unnamed hospital employee who told her daughter 'I bet he likes you.' after the little girl was sent to the hospital to get stitches after she was hit by a boy at school. What Smith wrote after the cut...

Smith writes:
"I bet he likes you." Dear man at the registration desk at Children's hospital, l'm positive that you didn't think that statement through. As soon as I heard it I knew that is where it begins. That statement is where the idea that hurting is flirting begins to set a tone for what is acceptable behavior. My four year old knows "That's not how we show we like someone. That was not a good choice." In that moment, hurt and in a new place, worried about perhaps getting a shot or stitches you were a person we needed to help us and your words of comfort conveyed a message that someone who likes you might hurt you. No. I will not allow that message to be ok. I will not allow it to be louder than "That's not how we show we like each other." At that desk you are in a position of influence, whether you realize it or not. You thought you were making the moment lighter. It is time to take responsibility for the messages we as a society give our children. Do Not tell my 4 year old who needs stitches from a boy at school hitting her "I bet he likes you." NO.

#ChildNotBride - Why are parents marrying off their young daughters to grown men?

Posted: 11 Oct 2015 01:14 PM PDT

A frontline campaigner of the Bringbackourgirls group, Aisha Yesufu, tweeted the photos. The little girl pictured is married to a security man somewhere in Kaduna. Can the Senate do something to protect the interests of the Nigerian Child? Or we must abide by religious & cultural beliefs while our young girls suffer?

Photos: Baby suffers serious burns after he drank oven cleaner

Posted: 11 Oct 2015 08:50 AM PDT

One-year-old Elijah Mole had his face and mouth burnt after mistakenly drinking oven cleaner while his father had his back turned, Mirror Online reports.

Within seconds, he was choking as his face burned up from the chemicals and he was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery to open his airway. His parents released shocking pictures of their son's injuries urging others to be aware of dangers in their home to protect their children.

"I've nearly had a break down about this all to be honest," said Jimmy. "There will always be a feeling of guilt. It was my fault. It's really painful to see him like this, but we dread to think what could have happened. He could have died or been blinded. It could have been a real terrible tragedy."
Although Elijah didn't swallow any liquid, the contact was enough to cause serious first-degree burns to his face, lips and neck. Elijah's mother, Deanne, 39, said she also feels terrible over her son's accident. I feel really guilty," she said. "I worked over that day, otherwise I would have been home." The little boy remains in the hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery.

New video shows how Nigerian student was kicked & beaten in jail leading to his death (photos)

Posted: 11 Oct 2015 05:34 AM PDT

22yr old Nigerian student Matthew Ajibade, (pictured right) died in police custody after he was kicked and beaten by police during a booking process where he was said to be combative and fought back. (read previous story here). And last week, during a trial of the case, shocking footage taken inside the Georgia jail where Matthew was booked showed him being kicked and punched in the head during the fight with police officer. He was left alone in restraints for an hour-and-a-half after the violence, at which point he was found dead. See the photos after the cut...

Ajibade was arrested on domestic violence charges on New Years day 2015 when the incident happened. In the video, Ajibade could be seen arguing with the police officers who call for back off. One officer tried to tackle him to the ground and Ajibade resisted. As she tried to taser him, Ajibade grabbed the taser and that was when another officer attacked him. The officer is seen in the video kicking the back of Ajibade's head at which point he stopped resisting. The police officer then used the taser on the Nigerian student and then handcuffed him. He was left there for an hour and a half and when they went back to check on him, he was found dead.

The three former jail employees, who battled with him are now in trial charged over his death. They were charged for policy and procedure violations that prosecutors say contributed to Ajibade's death.

Kanye West auditions for American Idol...lol (photos)

Posted: 11 Oct 2015 03:45 AM PDT

Imagine you're a judge on a music talent show and you're sitting and waiting for the next contestant - only for a 21-time Grammy winner to appear in front of you, saying he's there to audition. Lol. Expectedly, AI judge JLo completely lost her composure and could barely believe her eyes when she saw Kanye West standing in front of her. The super star rapper surprised her and other judges at the San Francisco, California audition of AI yesterday. He stood there and told them he wanted to try his hand at starting from the bottom ..lol.

He performed for them and of course he was sent through to the next round. And Kanye showed so much excitement to go through. He held up his 'golden ticket' to Hollywood's final round to show Kim and he looked as though he was like any other contestant that made it through.

The whole thing was captured by his wife Kim who shared a clip on instagram.

Ryan Seacrest even hi-fived him, congratulating for making it through...lol

'I'm 100% convinced Enyeama will return to Super Eagles' - NFF chairman

Posted: 11 Oct 2015 03:28 AM PDT

Speaking exclusively to LIB, NFF chairman Amaju Pinnick said he is convinced Nigeria's number one goal keeper, Vincent Enyeama, who quit last week, will return to Super Eagles.
"I had a good conversation with him yesterday and I am 100% convinced he will come back to the Super Eagles. He spoke to Oliseh on the phone for over 20 minutes and they were able to resolve some of their issues. In this case Nigeria is the winner."
Asked if Enyeama will return to the squad as the captain, Amaju told LIB;
"I don't know. The federation will not be involved in that. It's up to the coach to choose his captain. That's how it's done all over the world. It's the prerogative of the coach"
