Posted: 03 Oct 2015 11:16 AM PDT Oshanugo James Anyasi, 35, was sentenced by a Hanoi court to 12 years in jail Tuesday, September 29, for two separate fraud convictions, including one for pretending to love women and conning them out of money. Oshanugor was convicted of cyber fraud for appropriating other people's assets. The love con involved three others, including a Vietnamese woman who is serving a 3-year sentence given in February for the crime. Two other Nigerian men, the alleged masterminds, are still at large. The four met each other in September 2012 and decided to cheat Vietnamese women by hooking up with them online, pretending to become their lovers and promising them expensive gifts, then faking phone calls and emails from customs and shipping agencies to ask them to transfer shipping fees to certain accounts. Investigators found they had stolen more than 400 million (US$17,800) from 10 women. Anyasi got 15 percent for playing the role of an English businessman and chatting with the women, the Vietnamese got 10 percent, and the other two, reportedly based in Malaysia, took the rest. One woman in southern Vietnam paid a "shipping fee" of nearly VND21 million before getting an email asking for another VND46 million. It was then that she realized it was a scam. A woman in Nha Trang in central Vietnam paid nearly VND100 million, believing it was a fee to receive around VND10 billion Anyasi was transferring to Vietnam to buy land in the resort town. A Ho Chi Minh City woman, who was promised an iPhone, a ring and 10,000 pounds, paid nearly VND12 million. In the other fraud case, Anyasi stole nearly $12,000 by hacking into the email of a Vietnamese company and asking its partners to transfer the money. He was arrested in February while waiting to board a flight to Cambodia. |

Buhari reacts to Abuja bomb blast, says latest attacks expose real perpetrators of terror Posted: 03 Oct 2015 11:06 AM PDT President Buhari has released a statement reacting to the twin bomb blast that happened in Kuje and Nyanya in Abuja yesterday night. Read the statement personally signed by him below... "These cowardly attacks expose the real faces of the planners and perpetrators of these crimes. What quarrel do they have with the good people of Nyanya motor park? What issue do they have with innocent people in market places in Maiduguri, Yola and Kuje? It is clear this battle is not ideological. It is between the forces of peace and order and the evil forces of murder and destruction", he said.He said the security agents including the police and army have been instructed to be extra vigilant in this time. He sympathized with the families of all the victims that died in the attacks. |
The Vatican dismisses a gay priest Posted: 03 Oct 2015 11:06 AM PDT The Vatican dismissed a priest from his post in a Holy See office today Saturday Oct. 3rd after he told a newspaper he was gay and urged the Catholic Church to change its stance on homosexuality, Reuters reports. Monsignor Krzystof Charamsa was removed from his position at the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican's doctrinal arm where he had worked since 2003, a statement said. Charamsa, 43, and a Polish theologian, announced he was gay and had a partner in a long interview with Italy's Corriere della Sera newspaper on Saturday. He later held a news conference with his partner, a Spanish man, and gay activists at a Rome restaurant. They had planned a demonstration in front of the Vatican but changed the venue several hours before it was due to have started. The Vatican said Charamsa's dismissal had nothing to do with his comments on his personal situation, which it said "merit respect". But it said giving the interview and the planned demonstration was "grave and irresponsible" given their timing on the eve of a synod of bishops who will discuss family issues, including how to reach out to gays. It said his actions would subject the synod, which Pope Francis is due to open on Sunday, to "undue media pressure". The issue of homosexuality and the Church has dominated the aftermath of the pope's visit to the United States last week. In Saturday's interview, Charamsa said his partner had helped him come to terms with his sexuality and knew he would have to give up the priesthood, although the Vatican statement made no reference to this outcome. "It's time for the Church to open its eyes about gay Catholics and to understand that the solution it proposes to them - total abstinence from a life of love - is inhuman," he was quoted as saying. The Catholic Church teaches that homosexuality is not a sin but that homosexual acts are. The Vatican has been embarrassed by controversy over the pope's meeting with Kim Davis, a Kentucky county clerk who went to jail in September for refusing to honour a US Supreme Court ruling and issue same-sex marriage licenses. The Vatican said on Friday that "the only real audience" the pope had during his visit to Washington was with a small group that included a gay couple. Source: Reuters |

Posted: 03 Oct 2015 03:18 AM PDT The guy who posted the photo of his colleague's son on his Facebook page & let his followers/friends make racist comments about the boy (read here), has been fired from his job. 2 other guys who made the comments have been fired. The guy's company, Polaris Marketing Group, wrote on Facebook This morning I was disgusted to learn that one of my former employees made several racially charged comments on his personal Facebook page. Even worse, the comments were directed toward the son of another employee. It breaks my heart that Sydney and her adorable son Cayden were subjected to such hateful, ignorant and despicable behavior. Cayden visits my office almost every afternoon after daycare, he's sat at my dinner table and I consider him a part of the PMG family. The atrocious lies, slander and racism he and his mother have been forced to endure are wholly intolerable. Myself and the entire PMG family in no way condones this kind of behavior and would never willingly associate with anyone who does. It has no place in the world. PMG has terminated the employee responsible and will ensure that none of the businesses that we associate with will ever do business with him again. Photos: 2 kids who served as ring bearer & flower girl at a wedding marry 17 years later Posted: 03 Oct 2015 02:54 AM PDT Adrian and Brooke Franklin walked down the aisle as ring bearer and flower girl in a wedding back in 1998, when they were just kids. On Sept. 19, they walked down the aisle together again... as bride and groom this time. While their story may have ended with wedding bells, the couple says their beginning wasn't quite as romantic. "I had a crush on him from the start," Brooke Franklin told ABC News. "But he absolutely could not stand me. He said 'I got on his nerves.' I'd tried to play with him at school and at church and he just didn't want much to do with me at all"In high school, however, everything changed and Adrian and Brooke started dating. "We would draw with our finger on each other's backs and guess what the other person was writing," Adrian shared. "I wrote 'Will you be my girlfriend' and she guessed it, but didn't answer me. I said 'Well Brooke, are you going to say anything?' and she said 'Well, you didn't write a question mark.'""Before our wedding day I had a sign made that said 'Will you marry me' but I cut the question mark out. I asked her to marry me and I said, 'Here's your question mark" The newlywed intend to share photos of their first wedding together with their future children. Source: Mashable |

Nurse breastfeeds infant during surgery to calm her down Posted: 03 Oct 2015 01:44 AM PDT A nurse has gone above and beyond her duty when she breast-fed a one-month-old patient during a surgery this week in Guangdong, southern China. The baby girl, named as Wei Wei, was in the middle of a surgery on September 29 when she started crying and wouldn't stop, reported People's Daily Online. Li Baoxia, who was still lactating, decided to step in and breastfeed the infant patient, who then calmed down so the surgery could continue. Surgery continued successfully while the nurse breastfed Wei Wei. According to reports, the baby was undergoing a surgery for an anal abscess when she started crying and couldn't stop. Due to the baby's age and size, only local anaesthesia was used, which meant the baby could still move. Li Baoxia had just finished a surgery in a neighbouring operating theatre when she heard about the baby's condition from a colleague. Without hesitation, the nurse stepped in and breastfed the baby to calm her down. She then continued to breastfeed and hold the baby while the surgery continued. The heart-warming scene was captured by a member of the medical staff and shared online. After the successful surgery, Wei Wei's father was extremely grateful towards the doctor. He held her hand as he said: 'Thank you! You not only cured my child but also breastfed her. As a father, I cannot thank you enough.' The father then exclaimed, 'You're an angel nurse.' That sentiment was echoed by many Chinese web users since the photograph emerged on social media such as Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter. However, many also questioned whether the nurse had the right to breastfeed someone else's baby. It is not clear where the baby's mother was or whether the nurse had permission from the family before she stepped in to help. The surgery was successful and the baby is recovering well. Our economy is ill and is rapidly getting worse- Etcetera Posted: 03 Oct 2015 01:06 AM PDT Etcetera write below.. Is Nigeria getting worse? That is a very provocative question. I have found that most people that hate Nigeria are very eager to agree that Nigeria is getting worse, while a lot of those that love Nigeria are very hesitant to admit that Nigeria is in decline. Well, I am proud to be a Nigerian, but I cannot lie to myself or tell you that Nigeria is doing just fine. The evidence is undeniable. Our economy is ill and is rapidly getting worse. God handed us the resources to be one of the greatest economic machines in the world and we have wrecked it. But until we are willing to look in the mirror and admit how bad things have got, we won't be ready for the solutions that are necessary. The truth is that there are things that we can do to reverse the decline. It does not have to be permanent. We have got away from the things that made Nigeria great, and we need to admit that we are on the wrong path and start fixing this country. But if we choose to continue down the road that we are currently on, it will lead us into the darkest chapters in Nigerian history. If someone had written a story about what is happening now in Nigeria 20 years ago, people would have laughed and said "Wow that is a good story, but it would never happen here, not in our Nigeria." But now, the joke is on all of us. Nigeria has turned into one big comedy club where the audience is wearing a frown as they listen to the president cracking his "Change" joke. The president speaks of change from the same mouth that he nominates those purported to be ministerial nominees. He should tell us what change he expects from the list. How do you achieve this change doing the same old things with the same old people? Some governors on the list are still entangled in corruption allegations levelled against them by their successors. What happened to your zero tolerance to corruption mantra? This whole change thing is becoming a gargantuan joke that is not funny at all. A devastating economic collapse has left the country in a stagnant decline, where Nigerians are still sleeping under bridges, ghettos like Ajegunle are overfilled, while almost all houses in Victoria Island and ikoyi lie vacant with 'for sale' banners hanging on almost every gate, the kleptocratic politicians openly steal billions of dollars, and remain free, while people charged with petty thefts go to jail and have no bonds, protests break out and are quickly stifled by an authoritarian police force, media houses are getting shut down and becoming government controlled and relay repeating news stories that have little to do with real events, and are more focused on propaganda and nonsense, a politician takes several multimillion dollar vacations at taxpayer expense, while ordinary Nigerian families cannot afford the skyrocketing food costs, the senate is hopelessly unable to pass any kind of legislation that can benefit average Nigerians, but easily pass legislation benefitting themselves and usurping the constitution, prisons are built and manned waiting for those who dare to speak the truth against to power, the roads in estates built by politicians and their rich cronies are tarred over and over while the areas occupied by the poor masses are left in ruins, terrorists are granted amnesty and pacified with fat monthly allowances while law abiding citizens are gnashing their teeth. Whew! Did I miss anything? What about a hero? Maybe a small glimmer of hope. Maybe Buhari? hopefully. I would like the next paragraph of this article to read, "At Nigeria's darkest hour, the people defied the odds, and ignored the experts and elected a man of character and convictions to the office of the Presidency, and the said man restored the constitution, defeated boko haram, brought back the missing Chibok girls, brought justice to the people by arresting the evil men and women responsible for years of death and debt upon this nation." Now I like that ending. Will it happen? I hope to God it can be so. If I told a story 30 years ago that Nigeria will be worse off at 55, would you have believed me? |
