The First Lady movie gets rave reviews & outsells other movies at Cinema

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 01:00 PM PDT

Since the release of Omoni Oboli's movie The First Lady, many fans across different states have been praising the movie, giving it 100% positive reviews, which is very rare for a Nigerian movie at the cinemas. As a matter of fact, Omoni's movie has been selling where other Nigerian movies have been struggling.

In the last one year, only two Nigerian movies have done well after the era of 30 Days in Atlanta. The two movies, Tempting Fate and Dazzling Mirage had gross revenue less than N20 million. Omoni's movie, The First Lady has however been churning out numbers that make many stakeholders believe she will redeem some points for Nollywood. Have you seen the movie, what do you think? Below are some of the reviews on Social Media...

Photo: Woman abandons her 6-month-old baby at a refuse dump after disagreement with husband

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 12:22 PM PDT

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Delta Police Command, Mrs. Celestine Kalu has confirmed the arrest of Owhoghovo Annabel who dumped her six-month-old baby at a refuse dump after a dispute with her husband.
According to Punch, the incident began on Thursday evening, October 8, when Annabel's husband returned from work and asked her to massage his feet. Annabel refused but instead rained abuses on her husband.

The heated exchange of words degenerated into a fight on Friday morning after some neighbours who got wind of their quarrel moved in to settle the dispute.

Reports claim that the woman was said to have told her husband that she was visiting her mother in Abraka, only for her to dump the baby at a refuse dump midway.

The cry of the baby was said to have attracted the attention of passersby, who took the baby to a police station in the community.

Ms Kalu said Annabel is presently helping the Police with their investigations. She will be charged to court for attempted murder upon the completion of police investigations, she added.

My sound is different - Teeban says as he releases new single, Farawe

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 12:21 PM PDT

Fast-rising music prodigy, Teeban is ready to take the music industry by storm. Those who have been waiting to have a feel of Teeban's sound can begin to expect something fresh and real from the soulful singer who discovered his penchant for music at a very tender age.

Fondly referred to as the 'originator and king of Afro-Soul' music in Nigeria, Teeban who releases his first official single, Farawe, today 12th of October, is a student of Music and Production Management at Babcock University.

When describing his journey into music said he started developing his love for music back in the days when he listened to the likes of Backstreet boys, westlife, Shina Peters, Fela and a host of others, adding that his amazing vocal dexterity and versatility will set him apart and would definitely work positively for him as he sets to hit the big stage.

Speaking on his new song and how he intends to break into the very competitive music industry, the 21-year-old said" My sound is different,I am not coming to take anybody's place but to establish mine the way I know. I know what the industry entails and I am ready to give it all it takes. For me, Farawe is a game changer for me and it will set a new trend in the industry. He said further that Farawe is a Yoruba expression that simply means Imitate.

"It is an expression of a good feeling that comes from the state of joy. It seeks to connect with every listener by its impressive and different sound". The song was produced by prolific beat maker Mickey G and mixing done by Zeeno Foster. It contains core African sounds, various musical instruments with creative fusions and twists of Afrobeat and Soul in a live stage effect.

Construction workers in Paraguay catch thief who stole their wages & hang him up by his ankles

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 09:50 AM PDT

Jungle Justice is never the way but this is hilarious. Construction workers in Paraguay attacked a thief man who tried to steal their wages from their boss, Wilfrido Zarate, who was taking money to the group of workers when he was pursued by the thief, who had a gun and an accomplice.

After hearing gun shots and discovering what was going on, the builders took to action and were able to nab one of the robbers while his partner got away.

They tied him up and rained down punches on him as he dangled off the side of the building they were working on.

He was then dropped painfully on his head before police arrived on the scene. The police took him into custody but it is not known if any of his attackers were arrested.

EFCC Chairman Lamorde sues The Sun Newspaper for N1billion

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 09:45 AM PDT

Below is a statement of claim from Festus Keyamo Chambers. Read below..
1. The Plaintiff is a Commissioner of Police and currently the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The Plaintiff has had a distinguished career having joined the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as the pioneer Director of Operations in 2003 and by dint of hard work and integrity rose to be the Chairman of the anti-graft agency.
2.           The Defendant is the Proprietor and Publisher of a popular Newspaper called Daily Sun which enjoys wide circulation and readership in Nigeria and abroad.
3.           The Plaintiff avers that as a function of his position, he is at the forefront of the fight against corruption in Nigeria and he has successfully investigated and prosecuted several corrupt individuals in Nigeria.
4.           The Plaintiff further avers that as a result of his exceptional career, he has received several awards and commendations from organizations across the world and is recognized by international organizations as a leading light on Nigeria's fight against corruption.
5.           The Plaintiff further avers that in its Daily Sun Newspaper of Thursday, 8th October, 2015, the Defendant falsely and maliciously caused to be printed and published the following words of and concerning the Plaintiff:

"N1TRN LOOTED FUNDS LAMORDE, EFCC BOSS, IN SOUP"

6.           The Plaintiff further avers that at page 6 of its Daily Sun Newspaper of Thursday, 8th October, 2015, the Defendant falsely and maliciously caused to be printed and published the following words of and concerning the Plaintiff as an elaboration of the above stated headline:
"CHAIRMAN of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, is presently being investigated over allegations of diversion of over N1 trillion from the sale of confiscated properties belonging to convicted public officials including former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyesiegha and former Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun, among many others.
Daily Sun gathered that the Presidency's searchlight had actually been on the EFCC following complaints and reports that EFCC operatives were notoriously letting some financial crimes suspects off the hook rather than prosecute them.
The decision to launch a full-scale investigation, however, started after one George Uboh appeared before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions on August 23 where he alleged that Lamorde dipped his hands into the said funds.
It was gathered that after his appearance at the Senate, the Presidency picked interest in the matter and directed the Office of the National Special Adviser (NSA) to commence investigations into the allegations.
A National Assembly source said thereafter, the NSA, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd) reportedly swung into action.
"Series of complaints against Lamorde is his perceived slack supervision of his operatives. There have been series of allegations that operatives collect bribe from suspects and let them off the hook rather than investigate allegations thoroughly.
"This investigation is not a witch-hunt...It is meant to prove beyond reasonable doubt that they are no mere allegations but, they are weighty enough to warrant presidential scrutiny."
In his petition to the Senate, Uboh said the fraud allegedly perpetrated by Larmode dated back to his days as the Director of Operations of the EFCC between 2003 and 2007, as well as an acting Chairman of the commission between June 2007 and May 2008, when the then chairman of the anti-graft agency, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, was away for a course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.
Uboh, Chief Executive Officer of Panic Alert Security Systems, a security firm, in his petition dated July 31 accused Lamorde of some specific instances of under-remittance and non-disclosure of proceeds of corruption recovered from criminal suspects, including Balogun and Alamieyeseigha.
He assured the Senate that he would produce "overwhelming evidence" to back his claims against Lamorde.
Uboh also alleged that the EFCC had not accounted for "offshore recoveries" and that "over hall of the assets seized from suspects are not reflected in EFCC exhibit records."
The petitioner equally accused Lamorde of conspiring with some EFCC officers and external auditors ''to operate and conceal a recovery account in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and excluded the balances from your audited financial statements between 2005 and 2011."
"Lamorde continues to conceal the details of the unsold properties forfeited by both Tafa Balogun and DSP Alamieyeseigha despite receiving rent revenues from some estate agents on the said properties," he further alleged."
7.           The said words in their natural and ordinary meaning (by direct reference and innuendos) meant and were understood to mean that:

(a)       The Plaintiff is a fraudulent and corrupt civil servant who engages in diversion of monies belonging to the government.
(b)       The Plaintiff is a bad and corrupt leader who encourages his Operatives to collect bribes from suspects.
(c)       The Plaintiff is a hypocrite whose fraudulent activities date back to 2003 when he was Director of Operations of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

8.           The Plaintiff avers that the libelous publication by the Defendant was widely circulated and read by millions of people in the world and particularly in Nigeria where the Plaintiff has several associates, friends, family and professional colleagues.
9.           The Plaintiff avers that by reason of the publication of the words set out in paragraphs 5 and 6 above and their import set out in paragraph 7, the Plaintiff has been seriously injured in his character, credit, reputation and integrity and had been brought to public scandal, odium and contempt and has suffered damage.
10.       The Plaintiff further avers that immediately after the publication was released, he received numerous telephone calls from professional colleagues, international donor agencies, multinational organisations, relations, friends and religious leaders expressing their utmost disgust and contempt at the Plaintiff's alleged disgraceful, unpatriotic and sacrilegious conducts and questioned the integrity of the Plaintiff.
11.       The Plaintiff avers that the spurious allegations made by the Defendant are untrue and actuated by malice with intent to malign and undermine the Plaintiff's reputation.
PARTICULARS OF MALICE
(a)     The allegations in the publication are false and untrue.
(b)     The Defendants did not conduct any investigation into the truth of the allegations before publishing them.
(c)     The Defendant did not offer the Plaintiff any opportunity to respond to the allegations before publishing them.
(d)     By publishing the allegations in a sensational screaming headline, the Defendant evinced the intention to malign the Plaintiff and drag his reputation in the mud.

12.       The Plaintiff avers that he has suffered tremendous damage to his reputation and if the Defendant is not restrained, it will further publish injurious articles against the Plaintiff.
WHEREFORE, the Plaintiff claims against the Defendant as follows:
1.     The sum of N1,000,000,000.00 (One Billion Naira) only being damages for the words published of and concerning the Plaintiff which are libelous by direct reference and innuendo contained at the front page and page 6 of the Daily Sun of 8th October, 2015 titled 'N1TRN LOOTED FUNDS: LAMORDE, EFCC BOSS, IN SOUP' and further elaborated upon at page 6 of the said publication.

British grandmother finds out that her Kenyan husband whom she gave £25,000 from her savings had 47 other women

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 09:25 AM PDT

61-year-old Judith Stillwell recently found out that the Kenyan man she married and funded has been seeing 47 other women across the world. The British grandmother, a former teacher and divorced parish councillor, met Ovi Elias in 2009 through a UK dating site, where he told her he lived in London.

According to Daily Mail, Elias claimed he had gone to the UK 20 years earlier as a student, owned a flat in London and was a retired accountant looking to buy property in Dubai.

Elias moved into her home after they met in person and they got married in Brighton in August 2012, as part of what Stillwell believes was an "elaborate scam".

The woman, who changed her her name to 'Mrs Elias' and has two children and a grandchild, said she was intrigued as Elias was "different".

But as they curved out a life at her bungalow home in Ashington, West Sussex, Stillwell said Elias took frequent trips to attend to "urgent business".

"While I believed him when he said he was flying to Dubai to do property deals, I have now discovered he was actually flying all over the world meeting other women who funded his lifestyle, just like me," said Stillwell who gave Elias £25,000 from her savings.

Elias, who had told Stillwell he was 62, reportedly chatted with women across the world as 47-year-old Steve.

Stillwell added that she paid for them to visit relatives in Kenya for blessings after their wedding and also gave "thousands" for water, electric showers and other repairs after landing in Kenya and finding Elias' father lived in a poor state.

When they returned to the UK, she further gave her husband £10,000 (Sh1.6 million) for legal fees concerning the property in Dubai but Elias ended up travelling for months, after saying he would only be away for weeks, she said, regretting that she did not become suspicious.

"He always came up with reasons – for example there was extra legal red tape," she said.
Stillwell discovered Elias trickery in February when he left for another trip to Dubai; she found his e-ticket indicating he had taken a trip to Australia, but Elias claimed it was a detour.

Three weeks later, a woman in Australia told her she had found a list of 47 women in Elias' emails. The women were from locations including the USA, Philipines and Tasmani.

"Apparently he met them all on dating websites and using the story about a property in Dubai, got them to pay his air fares all around the world," she said.

"Then he stayed for weeks at a time living with each woman, spinning her the same line."
Stillwell said she asked Elias to leave when he returned and has not seen him since then. She said police informed her that they can do nothing as her huband did not break the law, but added that she would like her story to serve as a warning to to other women.

"Ovi – or Steve as he was also known – seems to be making a good living out of women like me. He meets them on a website, says he is in love and then after coming out with various sob stories, gets them to pay for his bed, board, and travel."

Mother of slain British Al-Shabaab terrorist relieved, says "He can no longer hurt innocent people"

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 08:01 AM PDT

The mother of slain British Al-Shabaab terrorist, Thomas Evan, said that she was relieved that he was killed because he can no longer hurt innocent people.

"I think he is burning in hell for his heinous crimes" 57-year-old Sally Evan told Sunday Times. Thomas Evans was among a group of Al-Shabaab militants killed in Kenya in June 2015 in a neutralized attack in a military base.

She said she was 'devastated and relieved at the same time' when she received the news of her son's death.
"Imagine discovering the death of your child on Twitter and being both devastated and relieved at the same time. Devastated because the child you brought into this world was killed after being brainwashed into pursuing a murderous cause. But relieved because the death of your child meant that he could no longer harm innocent people," Sally recently said at an event hosted by Quilliam, a counter-terrorism organisation.
Thomas Evans moved to Somalia in early 2012 after converting to Islam and being radicalised in his early 20s, and joined Al-Shabaab.

Sally said when Evans was in Somalia, he called her to say that he had married a teenage girl.
"He gave her family an old cow so he could marry her. But at least he's happy. I wish I could say the same, but I can't. I'm heartbroken for him and for this young girl," Sally Evans wrote in her diary on Christmas Eve 2012, the report indicates.
She apparently argued with her son on phone about the September 2013 deadly Westgate attack in Nairobi. She was disturbed that the son she brought up 'in a normal way' thought it was okay to 'murder innocent men, women and children out shopping'.

Sally refused to obey a request from his son's wife Sudea who called her in January 2015 to send money, saying that she didn't want to seem to support terrorism. The next thing she knew, her other son Michael showed her a Twitter photo of a dead Evans alongside other Al-Shabaab members killed in a botched terrorist attack in Kenya about six months later.

She called Sudea to see how she was dealing with Evans' death and says she could not believe when the her young daughter-in-law said that say she was 'happy because he died a martyr fighting for what he believes in'
