| Rivers, Akwa-Ibom Tribunal Judgments Cannot Stand - PDP Posted: 24 Oct 2015 09:30 AM PDT  PDP has described as unacceptable and bizarre the election tribunal verdicts in both Rivers and Akwa Ibom state. The Akwa Ibom state election petition tribunal few days ago had nullified the state governorship election in 18 Local governments and ordered a rerun. PDP's reaction is contained in a statement released this afternoon by its National Publicity secretary Olisa Metuh. Read after the cut.. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declares the verdict of the River state governorship election tribunal sitting in Abuja, which showed clear bias against Governor Nyesom Wike and the PDP, as completely bizarre, unacceptable and part of the script by the APC to manipulate the will of the people. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Saturday said indications to this spurious judgment had months ago been hinted to the PDP, which in turn, alerted the nation and the international community of the heinous plot by the APC government, to use the judiciary and various security agencies to reverse the victory of the PDP in Rivers, Delta, Akwa-Ibom, Taraba and Abia states. "We invite Nigerians and the international community to recall various reprehensible steps taken by the APC government that culminated in this ruling as well as the ridiculous Wednesday's verdict of the Akwa-Ibom state governorship election tribunal, also sitting in Abuja. 1. The curious and controversial relocation of the elections tribunals from their states to Abuja without any justification. 2. The constant juggling of judicial officers and members of governorship elections tribunal in PDP states, especially, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom states. 3. Constant harassment of judicial and electoral officers involved in the governorship election cases in these state, using agencies of government, particularly, the Directorate of State Services (DSS) under the direct command of a known APC member, Alhaji Lawal Daura. 4. Constant threats, intimidation and coercing of witnesses against the PDP in the tribunals. 5. The recent mass transfer of security operatives, especially the DSS and police personnel that actually participated in the conduct of the elections in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom, ostensibly to frustrate the course of genuine evidences in the process. "The bias in the judgment against the PDP in Rivers as well as Akwa-Ibom is evidenced in the contradictions inherent in the trial process of the two cases and the verdicts therein, whereby the tribunals clearly disregarded standing legal norm that a petitioner must establish prove of claims. "Also curious is the fact that after both the petitioner and respondent agreed before the tribunal that both card reader and manual accreditations were used for the election, the tribunal still went ahead to base its decision on issues of card reader. While it is convenient to them to use legal technicalities to deny PDP victory in Imo, Lagos, Ogun and Yobe states, the same rules are misapplied to wickedly favour APC petitioners in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom states. "It is therefore evinced that these contradictions are direct fall-out of compromises as well as boasts by the APC of being in direct and remote control of the tribunals. If not, how can one explain the fact that while governorship elections are being upturned in PDP states, in APC states, where similar claims and facts are in contention, elections are being upheld. "Further proof of bias by the Rivers tribunal is the fact that less than 24 hours after various counsels submitted nine written addresses and documents, the tribunal rushed its notice of judgment, an action ostensibly aimed at ambushing the pending Supreme Court action on the issue of jurisdiction regarding the relocation of the tribunal outside River state, which was due to be delivered on Tuesday. "This is not withstanding the fact that the tribunal has up to seven days after of receipt of addresses, to deliver its judgment, but chose instead, to rush to deliver this spurious verdict even on a Saturday, a development eliciting suspicion that the judgment may have since been predetermined and written even before the commencement of the case. "The PDP calls on all Nigerians and the international community to note this growing manipulation of the judiciary by the APC government, a factor which portends great danger to our democracy and the stability of our country. "Nigerians would want to recall that under the PDP-led government with former President Goodluck Jonathan's commitment to the tenets of democracy as encapsulated in the safeguard of 'one man one vote' and the independence of the judiciary, the PDP conceded electoral defeat in Edo, Anambra, and Imo states without attempting to collect victory through executive manipulation of the judicial process. "The PDP restates unequivocally that this judgments must not stand in view of the prevailing inherent contradictions, in addition to the huge threat they portend to our democracy and national stability. "Finally, the PDP charges all lovers of democracy, particularly our members in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom state not to be daunted, as these judgments will not stand the test of the law and the will of the people. We therefore reassure that the PDP will do all within the ambit of the law to resist this criminal attempt by the APC to steal and thwart the will of the people. | Wike’s removal by tribunal “deadly blow to hooliganism” – APC Posted: 24 Oct 2015 08:49 AM PDT  The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Saturday's judgement of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that overturned the election of Gov. Nyesom Wike of the PDP as a deadly body blow to impunity and hooliganism. In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the judgement has shown clearly that the era of impunity and hooliganism is over, and that the only way for elections to have legitimacy is for them to be free, fair and credible."What has come across from this judgement is that there is no shortcut to free, fair and credible elections. This is part of the wind of change that is blowing across the land and touching all arms of government under the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. "Elections are about the expression of the will of the people, and they must always be free to express themselves, irrespective of what some desperate politicians may feel," it said. APC said politicians, especially those seeking or occupying elective office, must realize that they can only derive their legitimacy from the people, and that unless they respect the wishes of the people, they will not go far. The party hailed its governorship candidate in Rivers, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, for his doggedness and strong conviction in the pursuit of his petition against the election of Wike that was not only marred by widespread violence and electoral malfeasance, but also acknowledged to be so by local and international observers – and now by the judiciary. It urged all APC members and supporters in the state to remain peaceful, even in the face of provocation by those who are now realizing, to their chagrin, that there is always a limit to everything, including impunity and hooliganism. | Flood Control: Rivers State Govt begins demolition of structures on waterways Posted: 24 Oct 2015 01:54 AM PDT  The Rivers State Government has commenced the demolition of structures which are impeding the free flow of water along the creeks, canals and other waterways in the State. This move, according to the Rivers State Waste Management Agency became necessary to avert severe flooding which is already ravaging parts of the State occasioned by heavy rains across the country.  RIWAMA's Director of Administration, Mr. Ian Gobo who led the operation, stated that the Sole Administrator of the Agency, Bro. Felix Obuah had in the past weeks warned residents and land developers in the State, especially in Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor LGAs not to erect structures on the waterways, adding that the National Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had listed Rivers State among what they called the 'flash floods location'.  The demolition exercise which began on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, saw the pulling down of two structures which were erected right on the waterway of the Mini Ekere creek in Rumuobiakani, Obio Akpor Local Government Area. | ||
| Petrol price to come down - VP Osinbajo Posted: 24 Oct 2015 01:47 AM PDT  "We are going to be unbundling the NNPC so that its various components are effective core centres and are able to do their business well. We are going to have private refineries at the site of the old refineries, so they can benefit from the available infrastructure. So, we think that in the medium term, we would be able to get cheaper pump price, pump price of oil would be cheaper because we would be importing far less refined petroleum. A lot of that will be produced locally. "Now, we have well over 30 modular refineries licences, so we think a lot of modular refineries would come. Many of them, their major concern is feed stock, are we going to be guaranteed feed stock? We are working on that. Once we are able to deal with that, we feel we would substantially be able to reduce pump price and get the whole business of importation of refined petroleum and the NNPC just getting directly involved in business; we are going to reduce that. The objective is to make the NNPC play more regulatory function. "They are options that are always there. But we think that there are ways we can raise our own potion of contribution to the Joint Ventures. It will only be a last resort and we have not come anywhere near that." Osinbajo said | ||

| Aurora movie theater shooter, James Holmes, assaulted in prison Posted: 24 Oct 2015 12:59 AM PDT  Holmes was not injured, officials say but Daniels will be charged with assault on a correctional officer & an assault on Holmes, said Adrienne Jacobson, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Corrections. "Daniels and Holmes are both housed at CSP. The incident occurred during an offender movement," Jacobson said.Daniels lunged at Holmes, took a few swings at him a few times. "It was in passing," Jacobson said. Holmes was in a Management Control Unit, where he is allowed to spend four hours in a day hall.
Currently there are no other inmates in his cellblock. The contact came as they were passing in a hallway. The Denver Post learned of the assault Friday through a letter whose writer claimed to be Daniels. He said the assault happened on Oct 8. The DOC has not seen a copy of the letter and therefore can't say whether Daniels wrote it. Holmes is serving life sentences in the murders of 12 people at the Century Aurora 16 theater. He also injured 70 people. State corrections officials sent Holmes to the CSP, the highest security state prison in Colorado in September. Daniels, who has used many aliases including Katrina Martinez, is serving time for numerous convictions out of Lakewood and Westminster and Adams County for menacing, auto theft, assault and smuggling contraband into prison. He was charged with first degree assault on a guard in 2006. Daniels is 6-feet-4 and weighs 195 pounds. | ||

Both twins who starred in a popular Yoruba film 'Ide' were in their early 40's. He is survived by a daughter born to him by his ex-wife, Folake. May their souls rest in peace, amen. | ||
