American journalist with Al Jazeera Nick Schifrin shared the photo on Instagram and wrote;
Outside of Bauchi, Nigeria, second graders in the public Kuletu primary school have no desks, chairs, or books. Their classroom has no windows, and its walls are crumbling. The blackboard is so old, chalk disappears into stains that look like recently dripped wax.This is not a case of poverty. Nigeria's education budget is $1.97 trillion.
Many private schools are modern. But schools run by the government, especially in rural areas, are neglected by politicians accused of pocketing money designated for educating the the country's youth.

Unilever Multichoice 'We care' schools program, targets undergraduates pan Nigeria

In order to improve the health and hygiene, wellbeing and educational performances, Unilever in partnership with MultiChoice started a school program with the theme "We Care about Your Wellbeing". The program kicked off on the 20th of August, 2015 and the motive is to reach out to the youth with a message of Care by creating an engagement platform on various campuses pan-Nigeria during which students are enlightened on the benefits of taking good care of themselves.
It also seeks to inspire students to do more to achieve their dreams now and in the future through career talks and talent displays. In addition, each student gets a care-packwhich contains brands (Rexona, Vaseline, Close Up e.t.c) that help you look good, feel good and get more out of life.


So far, over 60,000 students have been reached in seventeen tertiary institutionsacross the nation. These include the University of Lagos, Federal University of Technology Akure, Polytechnic of Ibadan, University of Calabar and Ebonyi State University and some of the engaging and exciting activities that took place were: Personal Care Talk, Career Talk, Dance Competition, Rap battle, Creativity Contest etc.

Speaking at the event at the University of Lagos, Mr. David Okeme, Brand Building Director, Unilever Nigeria, stated that Unilever and MultiChoice have a joint mission of enriching lives and this is beingdone by helping consumers look good, feel good and get the best out of their lives.

Category Manager Skincare and Deodorants, Unilever Nigeria, Mr. Olumide Aniyikaiye further emphasized the point by saying "Unilever and Multichoice are companies that care about their consumers in all totality and they have come together to show the youth that they care about their personal hygiene, careers and future aspirations. 

Mr.Martin Mabutho, General Manager, Marketing and Sales, MultiChoice Nigeria, also added that "MultiChoice presently has a scheme within most institutions, which empowers the youth by trying to prepare them for the labor market. It is a canvasser scheme where the students can learn and also make money by canvassing our products. MultiChoice and Unilever believe in empowering the youth and instilling the virtues they need to be confident and successful in life.

Ruth Gakii was savagely beaten by her ex-husband and father of her 3-year-old son on Wednesday, October 21. The woman is now receiving treatment at the Nairobi Women's hospital, Kenya. 
 
The ex, Alphose Kambua, a computer Programmer, has been reported to police for assaulting Ruth but hasn't been arrested. Women's rights activists have threatened to take to the streets if Kambu, who is said to enjoy diplomatic immunity, is not arrested and charged. See the photos after the cut...

Pastor assassinated in Bayelsa state

The head pastor of The Land of Peace Ministry, Alawari Ogili, was allegedly assassinated by known gunmen at his residence along DSP Alamieyeseigha Way, Opolo, Yenagoa, the state capital on Wednesday 21st.

Sources told The Nation that the armed men scaled through the fence of the deceased and lured him out of his house by stopping his generator. When he came out, he was shot multiple times and the assassins left without taking any of his belongings.


"It was a clear case of assassination. It was well-planned and executed unchallenged. We don't know the offence of the pastor. When he came out to check the problem with the generator, the gunmen who were hiding in the darkness, opened fire on him and ran away,"the source said
The state police command spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.

Late Michael Jackson's longtime physician Dr. Arnold Klein, has died. The man rumored for years to be the biological father of Michael's two oldest children, Prince and Paris, passed away Thursday night in California according to TMZ. He was 70 years old. 

Klein, who was one time the biggest dermatologist in Hollywood, was admitted to the hospital four days ago suffering severe abdominal pains. He was also suffering from Multiple Sclerosis & confined to a wheelchair at the time of his death. Klein hinted on many occasion that he was the biological father Prince and Paris.

E-commerce giants, Kaymu has launched the first-of-its kind social innovation centre called Kaymu Village to provide an enhanced user experience between sellers and buyers in the Yaba environs of Lagos state.

The centre located at 59 Queens Street Yaba, is dedicated to accelerate the interaction between members of its community. At Kaymu Village customers are able to set up and manage their online stores, resolve issues, compare prices, shop for items, fulfil orders, drop-off and pick up and interact with one another.




According to the Managing Director of Kaymu, Sefik, Bagdadioglu, Kaymu Village provides a platform for engagement between sellers, buyers in the community and the online marketplace.

Spanish clothing magnate Amancio Ortega, 79, over took Microsoft founder Bill Gates for the first time ever in the Forbes rich list. According to Forbes's real-time tracker, the elusive multibillionaire founder of European clothing retailer Zara smashed past Bill Gates to become the wealthiest person on the planet, with a fortune of $79.8 billion (€71.83 billion or £51.84 billion). Bill Gates' estimated net worth is $79.5bn as of this afternoon. He's expected to take back his top position from Ortega.
The elusive Ortega isn't as much of a household name as Gates, but he's quietly ascended the wealth rankings in recent years, as his company continues to perform well and expand.

 
Unlike many of the richest people in the world, Ortega has a fascinating rags-to-riches story. Born in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, Ortega's father earned 300 pesetas a month, a meager salary. 
Ortega's biographer described his memories of a childhood during which his family could not always afford enough food. He left school in his early teens, working his way up from the absolute bottom rung as a messenger boy in a shop.

It wasn't until he was 40 years old that Ortega got around to setting up Zara, the fast-fashion retailer that has gone from strength to strength — first growing in Spain, then neighbouring Portugal and France, then London. Now it's all over the globe.

Due to irreconcilable differences, we have decided to let go of the name "fashion cookout" and move on to greater things because it is not just about the name, it's about the "Brand".


We know everyone keeps wondering - what's "the transition"? Well, we are transitioning into a new type of event, a new phase,  an event the type of which has never been experienced before in Lagos. 17 confirmed dead, 73 others injured in Bomb blast at mosque in Yola this afternoon

About 17 people have been confirmed dead and 73 others injured after a bomb ripped through a mosque in Jambutu area in Yola, Adamawa state this afternoon. Many of the Muslim faithfuls were leaving the mosque just after their Friday prayers when the incident happened. This blast comes hours after a similar incident occurred at a mosque in Maiduguri killing 28 people. Most of the injured are in critical condition and have been moved to the federal medical centre, Yola. The state governor has called for blood donation for the injured.

According to Laurie Idahosa, the daughter inlaw of late Benson Idahosa, Senior Pastor of Christ Embassy, Chris Oyakhilome pledged to give N1billion towards the building of the Faculty of Engineering at the Benson Idahosa University. He made the pledge today after he was conferred with a honorary doctorate degree in Divinity by the school. More pics from the ceremony after the cut..

 

Addressing the student and the leadership of the school he talked more about archbishop Idahosa whom he said was his mentor and was privileged to meet him while he was alive, and how the late archbishop attended his early camp meetings and ministered to all..
