FIFA suspends Sepp Blatter for 90 days

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 10:26 AM PDT

FIFA ethics committee has suspended its president Sepp Blatter for 90 days. Head of the committee,  Klaus Stoehlker, who has advised Blatter in the past, says the committee made the ruling pending further investigations by the Swiss attorney general following accusations of corruption.

He described it as a "pending" verdict, and said no negative finding had been made against the head of world football's governing body.

The announcement comes just hours after Blatter criticized the criminal investigation against him in Switzerland, describing it as "outrageous". He also defended his decision to remain as head of the football organising body and not step down immediately, as worldwide sponsors have urged.

The 90-day suspension is the longest FIFA's ethics committee can hand down while they carry out their investigation.

Last month, the Swiss attorney general announced that Blatter will face charges of "criminal mismanagement" and "misappropriation." Among the charges is an allegation that Blatter gave a "disloyal payment" to UEFA president Michel Platini totaling 2 million francs ($2.1 million). That payment is alleged to have been made three months before Platini announced he would not run against Blather in the 2011 FIFA presidential election.

This is a press statement. Read below
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Wednesday received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry established by his administration to investigate the sale of valued Rivers State Government property and other related matters by the administration of former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
From Right: Rivers State Governor,  Nyesom Ezenwo Wike receiving the report of the Rivers State Commission of Inquiry on the Sale of Valued Assets from the Chairman,  Justice George Omereji at Government House,  Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The Governor who received the report from the Commission's Chairman,  Justice George Omereji at the Government House,  Port Harcourt declared that his administration will diligently implement the recommendations of the Commission in the interest of the state and her people.

This is as the Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry,  Justice George Omereji advised the state government to act on the report quickly to ensure that billions of Naira of state funds stashed in private accounts are recovered.

The governor declared that in addition to implementing the report, his administration will make the content public and also intimate the public on the next line of action.

Governor Wike said: "We will make sure that we swing into action immediately to see that the recommendations by the Commission are implemented.

"We will not be intimidated by anybody or group of persons. So many things have been done to discredit your commission.  But to me,  I know when the hands of a person are not clean, he resorts to the media."

While commending members of the Commission for serving the state honestly,  Governor Wike acknowledged that the he is aware of the threats they faced in the course of carrying out the state assignment.

He said : "I know the threats you and your members faced. But what is important in life is once you are clean and your conscience is clear, go ahead and do what is right".

Earlier,  the Chairman of the Rivers State Commission of Inquiry into the sale of Valued State Assets and other related matters,  Justice George Omereji informed the governor that the commission received 442 exhibits,  27 memoranda while 25 witnesses testified before it.

He added that the commission visited several sites in line with its terms of reference.

According to him: "Government should act fast on the report and Rivers people will be better for it. If government acts fast,  we will be able to recover billions stashed into where they kept them. That money belongs to the Rivers people and I hope government would act fast to recover it, so that it would be used for the people of Rivers State".

He noted that the commission's work was delayed by two suits filed by former governor Amaechi and Mr Augustine  Wokocha.  He said the commission only started sitting after the dismissal of the suits.

It will be recalled that Governor Wike set up the commission with the  mandate  to investigate the sale of the following :Omoku 150 MW gas turbine, Afam 360 MW gas turbine, Trans-Amadi 136 MW gas turbine and the Eleme 75 MW gas turbine.

The panel also investigated the sales of Olympia Hotel, the execution of the Mono-rail project, non-execution of the Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital after the payment of Thirty-nine million and two hundred thousand dollars to the contractor.

The Commission also investigated the disbursement and use of the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture credit guarantee scheme fund of N2billion and the withdrawal of  N96 billion from the State Reserve Funds. The panel was also mandated to ascertain the circumstances of the sales of the four gas turbines and to identify the purchasers and also confirm whether the transaction was conducted with  transparency.

Woman rides motorbike wearing nothing but a skimpy thong (pics)

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 10:17 AM PDT

A naked female biker got motorists all revved up when she was taken for a spin in south-western Russia's Rostov Oblast region at night, wearing just a tiny thong, high heels and a helmet.

The video which was shared on Youtube, showed the girl whipping off her white bra and handing it over to a friend as the motorbike took off.

Then the pair weave through the autumnal evening traffic, causing mixed reactions from other motorists.

Some saw the funny side and gave a thumbs up but others shouted at the girl as she gave them a one-fingered remark back.

The naked bike riding craze seems to be taking off in Russia as several other women have been videoed doing the same thing , also in Russian cities.

Bryan Okwara, Martini ambassador & Toolz visit Casa Martini in Italy

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 09:55 AM PDT

Bryan Okwara, Martini Nigeria Brand Ambassador was accompanied by popular Beat FM OAPToluOniru aka Toolz on this #fascinating journey to the home of Martini since October 3rd and would be returning at the end of the week. Bryan and Toolz were guests at Casa Martini, in the picturesque village of Pessione where Martini has been produced since 1863.

The cellars of Casa Martini, an early 19th century country mansion, house the treasures of its famous History of Winemaking Museum (one of the most interesting in the world in terms of the wealth of its collection). The museum opened in 1961 and consists of 16 rooms with more than 600 artifacts on display dating from the 7th century BC to the present day.

They both had a rare privilege to see the Museum which boasts of a new sensory display area, the Martini Experience Room. This room provides a fascinating sensorial experience of the living matter that actually goes into the company's best known products, namely the Martini range.

They would be among the many important visitors who would run their hands through samples of the herbs, spices, flowers, fruits and roots which form part of the closely-guarded secret of the Martini recipe. At the end of the visit they would be given an opportunity to make their own brand of Vermouth.

Martini is justifiably considered to be one of the biggest ambassadors of Italian-made products as well as one of the most recognizable trademarks worldwide.

Man caught cheating with maid - and his wife may go to prison for releasing the video

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 09:16 AM PDT

A woman who had long suspected her husband was cheating with the family maid could go to jail for filming him flirting and kissing the maid on her phone and posting the video on the internet.

The scorned woman is being questioned by police and could be imprisoned after she posted the video on social media with the caption: "The minimum punishment for this husband is to scandalise him."

The wife could go to prison for a year on defamation charges, as Saudi Arabia, where the incident occurred, enforces strict punishment for anyone using videos of photography to defame another person. Though it is a big issue for men to be involved with their maids, and the country sees it as a sign of bad morals, it also a big issue to shame someone on social media.

Watch the video that went viral below...the maid wasn't that into it this time...

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 08:55 AM PDT

C.O.D United and its club Ambassador, Hull City and Super Eagles forward Sone Aluko are pleased to announce the first edition of the Ambassadors Cup, a football competition for young aspiring footballers.

The competition which is open only for U-17 boys will serve the purpose of discovering Nigeria's next future stars and provide opportunities for nurturing and mentoring the best players discovered to give them an even bigger chance of fulfilling their dream of becoming professional footballers.

Speaking on the competition, CEO of C.O.D United, Shola Opaleye said the Ambassador's Cup is all about preparing the stars of the future to fulfil their talent and potential. " When Sone agreed to become our Ambassador, it was clear we shared youth development and nurturing as a common ideal. We are passionate about giving youngsters a chance in life and he is passionate about giving back. Given that background, he has contributed a lot to many of the things we do in that regard and we thought a competition in partnership with him would be a good way to build something enduring for young footballers."

Sone Aluko is equally excited about the opportunities the competition presents to young players. "I am here today because I was discovered and given opportunities to develop. This is what the Ambassador's Cup is all about. The boys who catch the eye will be nurtured through further training in the C.O.D United Academy and will be given further opportunities in Europe. Saudi Arabia threatens to execute people for 'tweeting rumours'

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 08:50 AM PDT

Saudi Arabia government has threatened to execute those who 'spread rumours' about the government on social media, including Twitter and Facebook.

According to a state-run website, Makkah Online, there are now laws and departments that censor mass media in the country, and the government has created a rule to punish people for not just tweeting, but also spreading anything deemed to be false. The worst 'rumour-mongers' will be executed, while lesser offenders will be punished with lashes, imprisonment, travel bans, house arrest and a social media ban, a Ministry of Justice source said.

It's a new law so no one has so far been arrested or executed but the government didn't say what kind of post would warrant a death sentence. The government said views spread over a period of time was bringing confusion to the country and felt it was time to curb it.

Activists say the new law is a way for the government to control a young, tech-savvy population.

Serial adultery lands South African based Nigerian man in prison

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 08:41 AM PDT

A 44 year old Nigerian man identified as Raph Emmason who recently relocated his family to Nigeria from South Africa, has landed himself at the kirikiri prison in Lagos over alleged infidelity and for defrauding his secret lover under false claims of procuring a visa for her.

According to PM News, Emmason, an indigene of Mbano in Imo State had lived in South Africa for nine years and decided to relocate his wife, Rita and two children to Port Harcourt where he provided them a flat to stay. After ensuring they were settled in their new home, Emmason told his wife that he was leaving for South Africa.

Unknown to Rita, he went to Abuja to camp at the home of his lover identified as Glory. Emmason had told Glory that he was a single man and was interested in taking her to South Africa so they could get married and live as man and wife. He also promised to take her brothers with them to South Africa.

Whenever Emmason called his wife on phone, he will pretend that he was in South Africa. He allegedly demanded some money from Glory to add to his own to procure four visas which she gave him N400, 000. After he collected the money, he dumped her and relocated to Lagos where he began lodging in a hotel with another woman. He did not procure any visa or return Glory's money.

Glory later traced him to a hotel where he was lodged in Lagos and got the police to arrest him. When the police requested for the money, he said he had used it to procure three visas which the police later discovered were fake. Emmason was charged to court with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing under the Criminal Code.

The case was heard yesterday October 6th and he pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J. O. E. Adeyemi granted him bail with two sureties who must show evidence of tax payment. He was remanded in prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

When his wife Rita, was contacted, she insisted that her husband, Emmason was in South Africa. It was not until she saw her husband in court, that she believed he had been in Nigeria all along.

The matter was adjourned till 19 October, 2015.

Olu Falae's farm overrun by fulani herdsmen again

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 08:33 AM PDT

Suspected Fulani herdsmen in the early hours of Monday October 5th reportedly overran the farm of the former secretary to the government, Olu Falae at his village in Ilado, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. This comes few weeks after the herdsmen allegedly kidnapped him from his farm and only released him 4 days after a ransom was paid.

Falae had complained that the herdsmen were always intruding into his farm with their grazing cows, destroying his farm products.

The Farm Manager, Bruno ‎Akhigbodemen, alleged that over one kilometre plantation of maize was destroyed by the grazing cows on Monday. He said ‎one of the farm workers who saw the herdsmen, raised an alarm but before other workers could come around, the invaders had left with their herds.

He said Olu Falae on hearing about the new development, contacted the state police command to lay a complain. Some police officers were immediately deployed to the farm land.

Photos: Black transgender woman attacked & shot dead by a group of men in Philadelphia

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 08:20 AM PDT

Kiesha Jenkins, 22, was ambushed by a group of men moments after she exited a car around 2.30 am, on Tuesday, October 6. The men began to beat her and then shot her twice in the back, police said. Jenkins was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

Police are still on the hunt for the suspects, although they say it's too soon to determine whether or not the incident was a hate crime or possible robbery.

"Kiesha was shot in the back around 2:30 am in North Philadelphia," a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Police Department confirmed. "She was known to the LGBTQ community as a transgender individual," the spokeswoman said.

Police are treating the case as a homicide - not a hate crime - though that could change as the investigation continues, she added.

According to Huffington Post, at least 18 other transgender women have reportedly been killed in the US this year -- and at least 16 of those victims, including Jenkins, were women of colour.
