Transgender woman posts suicide note on Facebook shortly before taking her life.

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 01:10 PM PDT

Ashley Hallstrom, a 26-year-old transgender woman from Logan, Utah, Ashley Hallstrom posted a plea on Facebook on Wednesday, October 14, calling for people to help change the stigma surrounding transgender communities. She then took her own life by stepping into the path of an oncoming dump truck on a highway. Logan, Utah police said they believe that the act was intentional.
"According to witnesses and information that we gathered on the scene, it appears that the pedestrian had jumped in front of that northbound vehicle," Capt. Tyson Budge said in a statement. "Evidence at the scene gave every indication that the driver had attempted to swerve and brake, to avoid the collision but was unable to do so" Budge added.
See the suicide note Hallstrom wrote on her Facebook wall before killing herself, after the cut...
These are going to be my final words. I can't stand to live another day, so I'm committing suicide. The reason why I've decided to do this is because I'm transgender. For those of you that unsure of what that means, it means that even though I was born in a male body, I am and have always been female. I've known I was female for as far back as I can remember. This caused me to become severely depressed from a very young age. From a very young age I was told that people like me are freaks and abominations, that we are sick in the head and society hates us. This made me hate who I was. I tried so hard to be just like everyone else but this isn't something you can change.
It wasn't until I was 20 that I found out I wasn't alone. I had hope that I would finally be able to live as and love who I am. I finally came out as transgender and began transitioning. For the first time in my life I could say I was genuinely happy. Despite this huge change in my life I never completely got over the depression being trans caused me. Everywhere I'd turn I'd see the hated that society had for us. I had already been poisoned by a society that didn't understand us and, even worse, didn't want to even try. I saw the pain it caused to people like me and going though this same hurt myself it has just become to much for me to take anymore. I wanted so much to help those going though what I had to because nobody should ever have to feel that they hate their life so much that they want to end it all just so they won't have to experience another moment of this sadness. I'm not the first to feel this way and sadly I know I won't be the last.
I'm writing all of this because I've need my story to be shared. I don't want to be just another number of a tragic statistic. People need to know that I'm not just another face of someone they never met. I was alive. I have a family and friends that I love very much and I'm so sorry to them for the hurt this will cause them. I loved being around those that I love. I loved listening to music and singing. I loved going out to eat with friends and enjoying good food. I was a real person. I still want to help people and I believe I still can. Please share my final words. I believe my last words can help make the change that society needs to make so that one day there will be no others like me. Please help make this change because trans people are everywhere. You may never know who you're hurting until it's too late. Please help fix society.

Photos: Bride organises her wedding in 4 hours so her dying mother would be part of it

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 09:58 AM PDT

When Sarah Dawson, 22, realized her mother had little time left, she organised for her wedding to her teenage sweetheart Mark Barlow, 27, to be done at her mother Rosanne's hospital bedside.

The mother of two and fiance Mark had already brought forward the date, from next year to October 31. But when Mrs Dawson, 51, worsened they realized that would also be too late so the bride hastily arranged a blessing with flowers, food and her entire wedding outfit.

The student from Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, said:
"Mum was deteriorating and it struck home exactly how little time we had left with her. It was vital to me that she should not miss out on the wedding and I knew I would move heaven and earth to make it happen."

An off-duty nurse at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Falkirk hurriedly bought flowers and arranged them in an ad-hoc collection of vases. A side room was arranged and the chaplain was asked to officiate. Sarah's gown was not yet ready but the shop arranged everything, even lending her a veil and glamorous shoes.

Nurses even formed a ceremonial arch for the couple to pass through. Guests included the couple's two children, Sarah's father Bob, 53, and her brother and two sisters.
"Although she was heavily sedated, Mum understood everything. We made our vows and she looked up and smiled. A tear rolled down her cheek. It was a moment I will never forget."

Mrs Dawson died at home in Tillicoultry from pancreatic cancer days later.

Photo: 80yr old woman arrested by by Edo Police for peddling arms

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 08:45 AM PDT

A woman said to be about 80 years old named Madam Comfort Izeomwen was arrested by the Edo State Police Command along with her accomplice, a 48 year old woman named Stella Omobude, who was caught with 32 live cartridges.

Edo State Police Commissioner, Chris Ezike, who paraded the suspects (above), said the women were arrested after police raided Evbueren village, along Benin/Auchi road, where the women lived after they got an anonymous tip about their operation...

The police said they recovered 68 live cartridges from the octogenarian. Ezike also disclosed that a mop-up operation also led to the arrest of Monday Obaseki, 38, and Ita Ehiozefe,40.
"I sell (cartridges) to them at N250, but I don't know what they do with it. That is what I do for a living," the octogenarian confessed while speaking with journalists at the command headquarters, PM news reported.

Canceled wedding becomes banquet for homeless people (photos)

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 08:43 AM PDT

When 27-year-old Quinn Duane called her mother to tell her that her wedding wasn't happening, that the groom-to-be got cold feet, the woman and her husband, who had spent $35,000 on the wedding reception, were shocked. It was supposed to be a beautiful banquet at Sacramento's Citizen Hotel, overlooking the city skyline, and the deposits had already been paid.

Instead of calling off their daughter's wedding, the Duanes decided to keep the reception. But it wasn't the original 120 guests who came Saturday – they invited a different group of guests - the Sacramento's homeless population - to a free, extravagant meal. The family said they thought it was the right thing to do.
"When I found out on Monday that the wedding would not be taking place, it just seemed like, of course, this would be something that we would do to give back," Kari Duane tells KCRA News.
The first to arrive was a woman who lives in a shelter for those who can't afford rent but are too old to work. Then, more came. The room began to be filled with children, individuals, families, even newborns.
The menu included salad, cauliflower, gnocchi, salmon, and tri-tip, similar to the food served at the hotel's four-star restaurant, The Grange. According to one homeless guest, it certainly beat the food prepared at homeless shelters.
"I think it's very generous actually to lose out on something so important to yourself and then give it to someone else," says Erika Craycraft, a homeless woman who came with her husband and five children.
The meal was a joyful occasion from their typical endeavor to serve three meals a day.
"When you're going through a hard time and a struggle, for you to get out to do something different with your family, it's really a blessing," Craycraft's husband, Rashad Abdullah, says.
Quinn Duane, the would-be bride, did not attend, instead opting to stay home with her friends. On Sunday, she and her mother will go to Belize on what would have been her honeymoon.

Controversy trails death of LUTH consultant

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 08:28 AM PDT

The Lagos state police command are working to unravel the circumstance surrounding the death of a consultant Paediatric Surgeon with the Lagos state University Teaching Hospital LUTH, Dr Hestianna Thomas. According to reports, the mother of 2, who was married to a Consultant Clinical Pathologist at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, was brought into LUTH last week Thursday with her body lacerated and her head broken.

"A close examination of her body revealed a lot of lacerations. In fact, I noticed that the head had a deep cut. When other colleagues also saw her, they said there was a deep cut on her skull, because they saw pierced bone. Her colleagues, especially the female doctors, were stunned when Dr Thomas was rushed in."a source said
It is believed she is a victim of domestic violence while others believe she might have committed suicide. The Lagos State Department of Domestic Violence has demanded for an autopsy to be carried out on the deceased as they are willing to pursue the case to its logical conclusion.

Reacting to the report, the Lagos state Medical Association, Chairman, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, LUTH branch, Dr. Emeka Ogbolu, said it was regrettable for anyone to believe the deceased was killed by her husband
"I was appalled at how some people jumped to conclusions that it was homicide without investigating or asking questions. I also had to refrain because it is really painful being that I saw her on Tuesday and therefore it came as a shock. I just came from their home where I went to pay a condolence visit and what I saw was a pained and angry mother. Her mother, after I introduced myself, pleaded that we do not abandon her son-in-law who is a son to her. While weeping she asked why someone will be so insensitive and wicked to her as a mother and conclude that her son-in-law killed her daughter. She cursed those that started it because she said they have only added to her pain which is already unbearable. She said she is a principal officer in a university and has some background in psychology and she knows the tell tale signs of domestic violence. She visits often and would not have hesitated to forcefully drag her daughter out of the marriage had that been the case. She would have known from her interaction with their children. She said those who started this have stung her where it hurts because she does not joke with her children. She said she broke down when she saw the newspaper that carried the story. I saw a mother pained. I think it was genuine. I promised her I would pass on her message as much as I can and that is all I have done." he said

Woman ties 9yr old boy to pole, beats and attempts to strangle him (photos)

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 07:27 AM PDT

A South African woman was arrested last week after a video emerged of her physically assaulting a 9-year-old boy. In the video footage, the woman is seen tying the boy to a pole before beating him with stick while screaming at him for allegedly stealing a cellphone. The KwaZulu-Natal woman who is due to appear in court soon is also seen threatening a resident who tries to stop the assault. See the pic after the cut...

The KwaZulu-Natal Social Development Department's Ncumisa Fandesi says.
"Such attacks on children are out of order and will not be tolerated. No reason should drive anyone to do what was done to the child in the video."
Fandesi says the woman also tried to strangle the boy using her full body weight, as he screamed for help.
"Social workers in Nquthu received information that a woman had badly beaten a boy and they responded. When they got to the area, they were shown a video."
She says this is not the first time a child has been assaulted by Nquthu residents after being accused of stealing.

Femi Adesina is an embarrassment to the Presidency - PDP

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 07:19 AM PDT

Lol. These politicians sef! Read the PDP press release below..
Our attention has been drawn to a vacuous statement by the media aide to President Buhari, Mr. Femi Adesina, in his futile attempt to counteract facts presented by the PDP that this administration is dictatorial and selective in its fight against corruption.
Mr. Adesina, in his habitual deceptive and diversionary manner, left the critical issues of governance raised by Sunday's press conference addressed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, and as usual, embarked on insults, shadow-chasing and fouling of the media space with uncouth language.
This office has noted Mr. Adesina's several previous unwarranted personal attacks and insults deliberately targeted at the person of the PDP National Publicity Secretary, in his desperate attempt to impress his paymaster and retain his job.

Our answer remains that inasmuch as we know that this Presidency aide lacks depth on his current assignment and has no credible defence, being overwhelmed in his job of trying to launder the image of this government, the characteristic resort always, to lies, malice and vituperations should not be an option.

While we appreciate the fact that Mr. Adesina is not conversant and knowledgeable in politics and intricate issues of governance, he should have applied the common sense of covering his hollowness in this regard and save the Presidency the embarrassment of an arrogant attempt to wave off very serious questions hanging in the face of the present administration.

May we remind the Presidency that Nigerians are still waiting for its response to salient national issues raised by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, bordering on relentless abuse of power, selective application of war against corruption, witch-hunt of opposition elements and perceived political opponents, threats to democratic institutions and government's clear lack of direction on economic issues.

How can Mr. Adesina explain the fact that while former PDP governors and ministers are being arrested, their APC counterparts, who have more damaging petitions with anti-graft agencies are being rewarded with ministerial positions, with yet others granted APC tickets for Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections respectively?

Perhaps Mr. Adesina is confirming that the nation now has two separate laws for prosecuting the war against corruption; one, to nail PDP members and perceived opponents of government, and the other to protect APC members and friends of the present administration.

We challenge Adesina, in the euphoria of trying to satisfy his paymaster, to defend him by showing Nigerians any APC member that has so far been invited or arrested by any anti-graft agency, other than PDP members and perceived political opponents such as Senate President Bukola Saraki.

It is unfortunate that in trying to wear his master the garb of a democrat, Mr. Adesina has instead muddled up and bungled his assignment with his arrogant posturing on important national issues. Whereas this media aide may have done well in the confines of his newsroom as a media professional, he has so far succeeded in making a mockery of the office of a spokesperson of the President of a country like Nigeria.

Our final take therefore is that the Presidency must note that Nigerians are still waiting for a proper response on the issues raised instead of invectives from an aide who apparently talks before he thinks.

Richard Ihediwa

PDP National Publicity Secretary

6year old boy accidentally shoots & kills his 3 year old brother while playing cops & robbers

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 09:23 AM PDT

A Chicago man has been charged with child endangerment after his three-year-old son was shot and killed by his six-year-old brother while the two were playing "cops and robbers".

The six-year-old found the loaded revolver on top of the refrigerator and shot little brother Eian Santiago in the head on Saturday evening, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. The older brother's name was not disclosed.

The boys' father, Michael Santiago, 25, was arrested and charged with child endangerment, a felony, police said. He appeared in court on Sunday and is being held on a $75,000 bond, according to DNAinfo.com Chicago, a local news web site.
"He was a beautiful kid. It's real crazy," the grandfather, Israel LaSalle, said in a tearful interview  "That's why parents should never have guns in the house."
The three-year-old was carried by a family member a block away to Norwegian American Hospital, and then transported to Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before midnight, officials said.

Michael Santiago told police he was a former member of the Spanish Cobras street gang and had purchased the gun from a gang member for protection, said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

At the bond hearing, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Joseph DiBella said the shooting happened when the children were in the care of their grandfather while Santiago was at work and his wife was at the store with a younger child, age one.

Santiago had shown the six-year-old the gun a week before, telling him it was only for adults, DiBella said. The gun had been wrapped in pajama pants.
