EFCC acting wickedly, on vendetta mission - Ekiti Govt

Posted: 21 Jul 2016 01:51 PM PDT

Ekiti State Government has described the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC ) decision to appeal the Abuja Federal High Court judgment, granting Governor Ayodele Fayose's ally, Mr Abiodun Agbele bail and awarding N5 million damages in his favour as clear demonstration of the anti-corruption agency's wickedness and show of vendetta against the governor.

The government said it was curious that for the first time, EFCC was appealing against a judgment that merely enforced the fundamental rights of Mr Agbele by granting him bail in accordance with the laws of the country. Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka said; "It is now obvious that all that the EFCC desired is to incarcerate Mr Agbele indefinitely just because he is linked with Governor Fayose, who the EFCC and its APC collaborators desired to silence at all cost."

The government said; "We are not surprised by this ignoble action of the EFCC because we know that Governor Fayose is their target. That was the same way they placed the governor on travel ban and invaded the State House of Assembly with men of the Department of State Service (DSS) to force the governor's removal.

"Justice Olukayode Adeniyi clearly frowned at the EFCC arbitrary abuse of power and unlawful detention of Mr Agbele without arraigning him in court of competent jurisdiction in line with the constitution and we wonder what the EFCC will be appealing and filing stay of execution against.

"We wonder the sense in keeping an accused in EFCC custody indefinitely while the anti-corruption agency goes about looking for evidences to prosecute him.

"If the EFCC is sure of the evidences that it claimed to have, what is the need for keeping Mr Agbele in detention? Why not take him to court? And what interest is the EFCC serving by standing against a court ruling that granted conditional bail to an accused person?"

Supercar driver chases after teen who smashed his windscreen with a skate board after he ran a stop sign and nearly hit him

Posted: 21 Jul 2016 10:17 AM PDT

Footage of this incident has divided the internet as to who  should be blamed. According to the person who recorded the video, the driver of a $250K McLaren MP4-12C drove through a stop sign and caused a young skater to fall off his skateboard. The driver beeps his horn and yells at the boy who is in no mood for it so he smashes the car's windscreen with his skateboard and runs off.

Filming vertically, he missed the actual moment the teen hurled his skateboard at the window, although the sound of the smash can clearly be heard.

YouTube user Paul Gonzo recorded the incident which unfolded in Denver.

As Mr Gonzo explains: 'I was catching a video of the sunset saw this McLaren run a stop sign and make a kid fall off his skateboard. You can hear the skateboard in the video. The passenger of the McLaren yelled something at him and the next thing I heard was a smash! The windshield was completely shattered.

'Kid took off running and the passenger ran after him. No idea what ended up happening after the car drove off. I guess the lesson here is don't run stop signs!'

The video has now gone viral receiving over 750,000 views after it was posted on social media.

RRS nabs 22 suspected kid robbers in Agege

Posted: 21 Jul 2016 08:49 AM PDT

The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command have arrested 22 teenagers for robbery, stealing and cultism.

The 22 teenagers, amongst whom are four female, were arrested for allegedly involved in separate incidences of robbery, stealing and cultism around Agege and its environs.

The two leaders of the first gang, which consist of eight members, Babatunde, 15 and Tayo, 15, were arrested on last Thursday, at about 11:30 p.m. in Mulero, Agege for assaulting and robbing one Aladegbo Abidemi with an axe, and snatching her Blackberry Z10.

The suspects were reported to have given out other members of the gang the following day. Other members of the gang arrested included: Matthew, 18; Sakiru, 16; Ganiyu,13; Reliwan, 15; Ibrahim, 15 and Kudus, 15.

According to their victim, Aladegbo Abidemi, female, 26, "I was coming from work. I decided to pass through Mulero to link the closest bus stop around 10:00 p.m. I sensed my phone ringing and I picked it. Just few seconds while on the call, I noticed some young boys about 12 swarming like bees towards me.

I ran but I fell down. They rough handled me, threatened me with an axe and took my phone. They retreated and abandoned me inside the gutter.

A couple of minutes after standing up, I saw RRS patrol vehicle. I reported the incident and showed them the direction they went. They gave them hot chase, and arrested them with my phone".
The second gang, consisting of 10 male and four females were picked-up at Abattoir on Monday at about 02:35 am, after three of them had earlier been arrested in Computer Village, Ikeja, for stealing mobile phones.

It was gathered that the trio, Sulaimon, 13; Godwin, 19 and Sunkanmi, 15, entered a phone stall and pretended they wanted to buy a phone.

They walked out again after inspecting the phone only for the stall owner to realise that two phones were missing. They were however caught on their way going.
It was learnt that during interrogation at the RRS' headquarters, three of them owned up to be members of Eiye Confraternity.

The names of other gang members arrested included: Taiwo, 17; Rotimi, 17; Lateef, 19; Tunde, 17; Bolawatife, 15; kayode, 15; Olamide ,15.

Other members of the gang who are female included: Olamide, 19; Agnes, 14; Ayo, 15 and Ope, 16.
All the suspects have been transferred to the State Police Command, Ikeja, for further investigations.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest of the teenagers. She stated that the Commissioner of Police summoned the parents of the children and he has ordered that the teenagers be sent for rehabilitated without delay.

She added that the arrest of the suspects was an eye-opener to the challenges of crime fighting and breakdown of family values.

Photos: Meet the HIV positive Malawian man who is paid $4 to $7 to have unprotected sex with underaged girls

Posted: 21 Jul 2016 08:38 AM PDT

Eric Avina pictured above is a middle aged HIV positive Malawian man whose responsibility it is to conduct "sexual cleansing" for underaged and also matured women in Nsanje district in southern Malawi.

Avina in his community is referred to as Hyena, a traditional title given to a man hired by communities in several remote parts of southern Malawi to provide what's called sexual "cleansing".

If a man dies, for example, his wife is required by tradition to sleep with Avina before she can bury him. If a woman has an abortion, she is expected to sleep with Avina to undergo cleansing. Also teenage girls, after their first menstruation, are made to have sex over a three-day period with Avina to mark their passage from childhood to womanhood. If the girls refuse, it's believed, disease or some fatal misfortune could befall their families or the village as a whole. He says he's one of 10 hyenas in their community, and that every village in Nsanje district has them. They are paid from $4 to $7 (£3 to £5) each time.
"Most of those I have slept with are girls, school-going girls. Some girls are just 12 or 13 years old, but I prefer them older. All these girls find pleasure in having me as their hyena. They actually are proud and tell other people that this man is a real man, he knows how to please a woman." he told BBC

Avina when asked said he is aware that he is HIV positive but he doesn't tell the women he sleeps with. Although he has lost count of the women he has slept with, he puts the figure at about 104. He is married to two women who know about his job and approve.

OPC issues 14-day ultimatum to militants, warns them to desist from attacking South-West communities

Posted: 21 Jul 2016 08:16 AM PDT

Pan-Yoruba organisation Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has issued a warning to suspected Niger Delta militants attacking people in South-West communities. According to the OPC, either they allow peace to reign, or face the consequences of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth clash, considering they know where the properties of their leaders' are situated and where their people reside in the entire South West. Read the full statement titled "Incursion of Ijaw militants into Yoruba land:
Enough is enough" after the cut.

"Enough of these invasions, killings and kidnapping of our people right on our own soil. We of the Oodua Peoples Congress (Reformed) have waited for this long, hoping that the government would curb the deadly acts of the Ijaw people on our kinsmen in their fatherland in Ogun and Lagos states. But, it has now dawned on us that the lives and properties of our people and, indeed, the masses are of no importance to those in authorities and the marauding militants. It is a known fact that we, the Yoruba, are the most contented, accommodating and tolerant among all the ethnic groups in Nigeria. We wholeheartedly welcome other tribes coming into our states either to reside or do business. But, if they want to take our hospitality for stupidity, we are ready to prove to them that the gentility of a tiger is not an act of cowardice. Before now, it was the Fulani herdsmen, now it is the Ijaw people that are on the prowl. Enough is enough.
Consequently, we are giving the Ijaw militants a 14-day ultimatum to allow peace to reign in our land. If they fail to heed the warning, it will henceforth be an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. We will prove to them that Lagos belongs to the Yoruba and not a no man's land that they tend to erroneously claim. If they must care to know, we have information and facts about where their leaders' properties are situated in the entire South- West and where their people reside in our midst as well."
